You can find the list of certified software on the CRA’s official tax software page.

Once prepared, the software sends your return directly to the CRA through the NETFILE service.

When Does NETFILE Open?

Each year the NETFILE service has a specific start date, usually in late February. For the 2026 tax season, the CRA reopens NETFILE on February 23, 2026 at 6:00 a.m. Eastern Time.

After this date, you can electronically send your 2025 tax return using certified tax software.

Using NETFILE is generally faster than mailing a paper return. The CRA usually processes NETFILE returns more quickly, and you can receive your notice of assessment and refund sooner.

Do I Have to Mail a Paper Return?

You may choose to file a paper return if you are not eligible or able to use NETFILE. Paper filing means printing your completed tax forms and sending them by postal mail to the CRA.

The CRA still accepts paper returns, though processing times can be longer compared with electronic filing.

To file on paper, you need to complete the appropriate income tax and benefit package for the tax year and then mail it to the correct CRA tax centre based on where you live.

Where Do I Mail My Paper Tax Return?

The mailing address for your paper tax return depends on your province or territory of residence as of December 31 of the tax year.

Canada has several CRA tax centres that process income tax and benefit returns. The main tax centres and the areas they serve are outlined below based on official CRA addresses.

Winnipeg Tax Centre

Mail your return to the Winnipeg Tax Centre if you live in:

Alberta

British Columbia

Manitoba

Saskatchewan

Northwest Territories

Yukon

Certain parts of Ontario such as Hamilton, Kitchener, Waterloo, London, Thunder Bay, or Windsor

Mailing address:
Winnipeg Tax Centre
Post Office Box 14001
Station Main
Winnipeg MB R3C 3M3
Canada

Sudbury Tax Centre

Mail your return to the Sudbury Tax Centre if you live in:

New Brunswick

Newfoundland and Labrador

Nova Scotia

Nunavut

Prince Edward Island

Parts of Ontario such as Barrie, Belleville, Kingston, Ottawa, Peterborough, St. Catharines, Sudbury, or Toronto

Parts of Québec such as Montréal, Outaouais, or Sherbrooke

Mailing address:
Sudbury Tax Centre
1050 Notre Dame Avenue
Sudbury ON P3A 5C2
Canada

Jonquière Tax Centre

Mail your return to the Jonquière Tax Centre if you live in other areas of Québec that are not Montréal, Outaouais, or Sherbrooke.

Mailing address:
Jonquière Tax Centre
2251 René-Lévesque Boulevard
Jonquière QC G7S 5J2
Canada

Are There Other CRA Tax Centres?

In addition to the main centres that process personal tax returns, the CRA also has other offices and centres that handle business-related returns and other correspondence.

If you are filing a corporate tax return (T2) or another specific type of return, contact CRA or check the CRA’s official contact pages for the correct address.

What Should I Include When Mailing My Return?

When mailing your paper return, include:

Your completed T1 income tax and benefit return and all required schedules

All necessary tax slips such as T4, T5, and others

Your signature and date on the return

Copies of supporting documents only if requested

Send separate envelopes for separate individuals if filing more than one person’s return. Use official CRA addresses and double-check them before sending to ensure correct delivery.

What Happens After I Mail My Return?

Once your paper return is received, the CRA processes it and sends you a Notice of Assessment (NOA).

Processing times for paper filings are typically longer than NETFILE processing times, so expect several weeks after mailing before you receive your NOA or refund.

Should I Choose NETFILE or Mail?

NETFILE is usually faster and more efficient. Filing electronically often results in quicker processing and faster refunds. Paper filing is an option if you cannot file online or prefer a physical submission.

Regardless of method, ensure your return is complete, accurate, and sent to the correct address or submitted through certified software.

Where to Get Official CRA Tax Filing Info

Canada Revenue Agency – Where to mail your paper T1 return

CRA – Tax Services Offices and Tax Centres

CRA – How to file your tax return (including NETFILE details)

Filing your income tax return in Canada means choosing how and where to send it.
